The equipment include three sets of wall-held metal scanners, three sets of X-ray baggage scanners, 100 sets of handheld metal scanners and three sets of human body metal detectors.
The donation, according to the Ghana News Agency is a direct response to a request made by Parliament to the Chinese Government.
Already, the Legislature has over the past months made considerable and very visible
security arrangements in and around the House.
Yu Zengsheng, the visiting Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, donated the goods
when called on the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, at his office in Accra.
Yu is on a four-day state visit to Ghana, after visiting Cote d’Ivoire and Gabon.
Speaker Adjaho, acknowledged the relationship between Ghana and China and there is the need to deepen the bilateral ties.
He said Ghana had remained a true partner of China over the years and had supported China’s bid to remain a member of the United Nations Security Council, adding that, Ghana would continue to support the "One China" Policy.
Chairman Yu, for his part, said he was overwhelmed by the considerable progress Ghana had made over time in the areas of economy and governance, and also emphasised the need to deepen the ties.
