Kenyans dug through chunks of concrete as they searched for survivors after a building collapsed in Nairobi, killing at least seven people, authorities said.Rescuers have pulled out 128 people after the apartment building collapse Friday night, said spokesman Charles Owino of the Kenya Police.
More people are feared trapped in the seven-story building in the Huruma area.
"We are still on the scene and we are removing the debris, and we pray that we will be able to rescue more in case they are there," Owino said.
The building collapsed after heavy rains. It's unclear what caused the structure to fail, but residents told the Red Cross that the bottom floors caved first.
Owino said it's too early to get answers, but he is expecting preliminary information soon.
"It's not a new building, it's an old building so hopefully the planning department is able to tell us," he said.
"We don't how how much the heavy rains could have caused the building to fall. There could be other technical reasons."
He said all the floors were occupied.
