Detained SA security trainers charged

The three South African ex-Police Officers who were arrested on Sunday for training private security personnel of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo and his running mate Dr. Bawumia, have been charged.

The three, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.

Flagbearers are safe in our hands – Police

Group offers to organize Mahama-Akufo-Addo debate

A group calling itself People’s Forum-Ghana is offering to organize the much anticipated debate between President John Mahama and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The offer comes after President Mahama threw a challenge during an interview on TV3 to Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the November 7, general elections.

Parliament to fix winning bonus for Black Stars

Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye wants Parliament to refix the winning bonus for the Black Stars after describing the existing payment structure as senseless.

38 students collapse over mayor’s long speech

Over 900 displaced in Yendi rainstorm on Independence Day

A rainstorm has displaced 942 people in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region.

Records from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) showed that 368 rooms in 91 households were affected.

As the first rainstorm recorded in the Northern Region in 2016, five teachers were among the victims.

The situation has compelled the affected teachers to temporarily abandon the classroom.

Chief halts indece parade over land dispute

A scheduled Independence Day parade at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central region came to an abrupt end due to a land dispute between the chief of the area and a headmistress.

The chief, Nana Kojo Essel, according to reports, had threatened to disrupt the parade if pupils of Marzak International School participate in the march-pass.

This, he said, is because the headmistress [name withheld] of the school has shown gross disrespect to the Gomoa traditional authority.

Adom News’ Kofi Agyei who followed the story said, the headmistress took the chief to court for demanding more money after selling her two acres of land.

Rains won’t disrupt Independence day parade – Meteo

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has discounted reports suggesting that a major thunderstorm coming in from Nigeria could disrupt Sunday’s Independence Day parade at the Black Star Square.

Sources at the Meteorological Agency have told Citifmonline.com that Ghanaians will experience a cloudy weather in the early hours of the day, March 6, 2016.
They added that only scattered bouts of rainfall would be recorded in the middle, forest and mountainous areas in the late afternoon.

Akufo-Addo's 'Real State of the Nation' address needless - PNC

‘Cedi to depreciate by 15% in 2016’ - InvestCorp

Ghana's currency the cedi which depreciated by about 18.75 per cent against the US dollar in 2015 is expected to depreciate by about 15 percent this year.

This means the cedi which has been battling instability against the American currency almost every year will sell at about GH¢4.50 to the world’s most important currency by December 31, 2016.

According to investment firm, Investcorp, unstable economic fundamentals, high imports and fiscal imbalances are expected to have some effect on the cedi.

Mahama snubs Konadu Rawlings

It seems there is a deep rift between President John Dramani Mahama and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former first lady and wife of the founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the president had allegedly refused to have any kind of meeting with the lady.

Members of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) claim that they had made some efforts on three occasions to visit the president together with the former first lady but the office of the president had allegedly refused to respond to their request.

“We have written about three letters to the office of the president indicating that members of FONKAR and the 2012 flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, will want to visit the president but there had been no response up till now,” they alleged.

House of Chiefs blamed for Bunkpuguru bloodshed
